GENERAL BUTLER STATE RESORT PARK

CARROLLTON, KENTUCKY

This project was begun in 1996 to honor all Kentucky Veterans.

In honor of those who served -

In tribute to those who perished -

In gratitude to those now serving -

The Veterans Memorial was designed by John Geisler from Carroll County and Jim  Sutherland of Trimble Co.  Members of the local fund raising committee for this project are Shelby Bickers, Chairman, Jack Perkins, Co-Chairperson and Bill Reed, Chaplin, Member of Board of Directors. All are from Post 41 American Legion in Carroll County, KY.   Kathy Wolf is post Commander.

The Veterans Memorial is located at the Highway 227 entrance to the General Butler State Resort Park in Carrollton, Kentucky. This location was chosen because of the high volume of year round traffic through the park .

Additional steps toward completion of the memorial were taken on Friday, June 23, 2000. The major monuments were set in place with the lighting and flag standards. Digital photo's show the three major units as they are carefully prepared and lifted into their eternal place by the construction crew. The memorial will be completed for the dedication ceremony scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on July 4, 2000.

After more than six years of planning and dreaming, the dreams came true on July 4, 2000.  A dedication ceremony was held with more than 2,000 in attendance dedicating the Kentucky Veterans Memorial.  More than 400 inscribed bricks were sold by dedication date.  Bricks may still be purchased until the capacity of approximately 1,300 is reached. As of September 1, 2006, the memorial's brick capacity is quickly approaching with less than 25 bricks available.
